Manuela Padilha

Born in 1982 in Recife, Brasil, Manuela has a degree in Tourism from the Catholic University of Pernambuco and she holds a postgraduate degree in Organizational Planning and Management from the University of Pernambuco.

One of her first professional experiences was as supervisor at the “Olinda em Toda Parte” (Olinda Everywhere), an arts festival that takes place at the historic city of Olinda.  After that, she worked with exchanges in Yazigi, then as a receptionist at Luck and right afterwards she spent some years working at the leisure area of Tourist agencies such as Saunders, Aerotur and Pontual, working in the logistic area of operations and with client relations. Then she moved to the corporate area of the tourist agencies Pontual, Aerotur and lastly Pontestur, where she worked until April 2018.

Tired of the corporate world and the exacerbation of capital, Manuela spent some years looking for the next step.  It was this year that she decided to step out of the comfort zone and embark on a personal enterprise, something more human and real.

And that’s when she joined Rodrigo Adrião to face the challenge of starting her own business, a potential space which gathers genuine experiences in ecotourism. A challenge that would contribute to her personal, spiritual and professional development, as well as to the things that really matter in life; nature, local culture and honest people.

Manuela is a sea and sun lover, who is always with her feet on the sand.  She knows the whole coast of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas and most of the coasts of Ceará and Bahía (Northeast region of Brazil). She has already been to Fernando de Noronha 11 times and she is always thinking of the next trip to the beach. Nowadays she is Manager of Logistics and Operations and Administrator of Mar de Selva.

Born in 1983 in Recife, Pernambuco. At 16 years old, he started his professional life within the PAPAI NGO as a volunteer at a social project where he contributed for two years.

At 21, he moved to the hinterlands of Pernambuco to work for CECOR NGO as a volunteer in socio-environmental projects. At 22, he returned to Recife to study biology and at 25, he became a Biologist at FUNESCO (Olinda, Brazil).

After graduating, he participated in the World Social Forum, in Belem in the state of Para, and afterwards we travelled through northern Brazil. He returned to Recife to work as a volunteer at the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Environmental Funds (RedLAC), at that time led by Venete Almeida.

The same year, the RedLAC enabled Rodrigo to travel to Tarapoto, Peru, to work as a volunteer at NGO CEPCO, led by Betty Leveau back then.  He was then hired to stay there for one year and a half. Most of the time he dedicated his work to the San Roque de Cumbaza community, where he got to know the ecotourism and the indigenous culture.

In Peru, que travelled through the highland jungle, the lowland jungle, the mountain rage and the coast, going into national parks and inhospitable landscapes. For his holidays, after working at the NGO, he went to Ecuador, where he visited the areas of Guayaquil, Quito and Manta, getting to know fishermen communities and national parks.

He returned to Recife when he was 27 years old and devoted himself to teach biology in different schools. At 28, he went on to study his master’s degree in Ecology and Environmental Management at the School of Science of the University of Lisbon, Portugal. There, he got to know some of the old continent, travelling through some national parks from Portugal, Spain, France and England.

At 28, he returned to San Roque de Cumbaza, Peru, in order to collect information for his master’s thesis.  The next year he returned to Recife to complete his thesis, to undertake and to administer the “Residence Inácio Monteiro” hostel, during the 2014 WorldCup. By the end of 2014 he returned to Lisbon, Portugal, to defend his thesis: “Ecotourism in San Roque de Cumbaza, Peru.  A Conservation Experience?” http://repositorio.ul.pt/bitstream/10451/15427/1/ulfc107382_tm_rodrigo_adriao.pdf

As Master in Ecology and Environmental Management, at 30 years old he went to Agreste of Pernambuco to work at the “Sabiá” Center as a project manager of “Cisterna nas Escolas” (Cistern at Schools). He travelled through various rural communities getting the chance to get to know and discuss about the education at the rural areas of the Agreste. At 31, he performed a consultancy about education of the states of Bahia and Sergipe through UNICEF.

At 32, he decided to give up to “stability” and decided to follow his dream. To create a space that would gather the real ecotouristic experiences, and that is how Mar de Selva was born. Today he is the CEO and Manager of Mar de Selva.
